English to Mandarin Voice: Translate Text, Then Hear It Spoken
There is no single button here that turns English into spoken Mandarin. The reliable workflow has two steps: translate the English into Chinese characters, then have a Mandarin voice read the characters. This guide explains the workflow, how to check the translation before you trust it, and what the reader can and cannot do for you.
The two-step workflow
Translate the English into Chinese characters with a translator you trust, then paste the Chinese into the reader and press play.
The reader needs Chinese characters. An English sentence pasted into it will not be spoken as a Chinese translation. Use a translator, a dictionary, or a bilingual colleague to produce simplified Chinese, and review the text before you generate audio.
The sentence translation built into the reader runs in the opposite direction: it translates Chinese into English on your device in Chrome 138 or newer. That makes it useful for a check, as shown below.
Check the translation before you use it
Machine translation can be literal, overly formal, or wrong in context. Read it back in English and ask a Chinese speaker when the message matters.
Paste the Chinese you received into the reader with sentence translation switched on, and read the English it produces. If the meaning has drifted, the Chinese is probably wrong. This does not prove the Chinese is natural, only that its meaning survived the round trip.
Pay particular attention to politeness, names, numbers, and idioms. If the recording will be used publicly or in business, have a Chinese speaker listen to it.
Generate and save the audio
Choose a female or male voice, preview a sentence, then use Download MP3 on the website if you need a file.
Prepare the Chinese on the website, preview the voice and speed, then download the MP3 and listen to the whole file. In Chrome, the extension reads text from the page, but MP3 export is on the website only.
Remember the daily limit: 3,000 characters without signing in and 5,000 with a Google account.
What this is not
It is not a live interpreter, a voice-to-voice translator, or an accent changer.
The reader does not take English speech and return spoken Chinese in one step, does not clone your voice, and does not make an English voice sound Chinese. If you need conversational interpretation, use a service built for that and check its language list.
Frequently asked questions
- Can the reader translate English to Chinese?
- No. Its built-in sentence translation goes from Chinese to English on your device. Translate English into Chinese elsewhere, then paste the characters.
- Can I save the result as MP3?
- Yes, on the website. The extension does not export MP3.
- Is the voice Mandarin or Cantonese?
- Mandarin. Cantonese voices are not available.
